Hello Survivalists, I'm alive! And we have an update for Survival that will be releasing tomorrow.. Along with some information for all who want to see Survival reach its true potential. Is it 1.13? No, not yet. But it's a start. I've spent the past couple months in a bit of a limbo in real life, but I've also been reading a lot about games, what makes them enjoyable, and why, on a psychological level. It has given me some insight for a direction which we could take Survival. Socializing.. What? Yes, we all do it. And it's probably one of the main reasons you play Survival and Minecraft servers to begin with. It's also why I have chosen to add the content in this update. It is intended to bring players together in certain areas to achieve a certain goal or collect some loot. - KoTH - KoTH (aka King of the Hill) is a minigame where you stand on a pre-defined capture point for an amount of time without being knocked off in order to win. Although PvP isn't the greatest after 1.9, I think that Survival could still benefit from having a place where players can team up & fight one another for some cool & rare loot. It also will be a good incentive for future additions on Survival that we've planned, where team work will be the focus. Spoiler: Mountain We used to use this plugin from time to time for when we wanted to hold events on Survival, but eventually did away with it. I thought it would be cool to have a King of the Hill a time or two a day, hosted either by a staff member, or by an automatic schedule. I have not set a schedule yet, as I would like to talk to you guys first and see what times would be the best (comment times). The reward from this KoTH is a key that is not obtainable anywhere else, the Ice Key. - Meteor Showers - Meteor showers are a feature we have on Invasion as well. I thought it would be a nice addition to go along with this update. From time to time, meteors will rain upon the spawn area and /warp pvp, but not in any buildings for obvious reasons. Upon searching a meteor, you will receive some loot. There are four tiers of meteors, and the rarest ones have the best drops. Currently there is one drop that is unique to meteors, but I'll let you figure that out for yourselves. - Event Boss - This was an idea given by that boi @Hewittassassin29. A boss that is used purely for events, with good loot, would be a great way to host easy and fun events on the server. Upon killing an Event Boss, you will receive one Event Key. The top two killers will receive this reward. - Fixes & Changes - With this update will come a couple other changes. I'll list them below: Item pickup and dropping has been enabled during combat. Creeper explosions now blow up in unclaimed land. Withers now do explosion damage outside of claimed land. An axe was added to the starter kit to help new players (already implemented). The starting amount of claim blocks has been increased to 500. The new player join message was enhanced (already implemented). Players can now join with 1.12-1.13.2 (already implemented). Natural hostile mob spawning fix (this will be fixed tonight). Friendly fire has been enabled in parties to make teaming less overpowered. Knockback 4-5 items are now banned from pvp. Use them at your own risk. - Survival Version - We are going to begin labeling Survival with a version. Since we're a bit into the 4th map on Survival, I thought it would be appropriate to make the version 4.5 to start with after this update. After the next map, it will start at 5.0. Each time a substantial update is released, the version will tick up (ie: 4.51, 4.6). The number won't really indicate how close we are to the next map, but more so the amount of content the map has received. It will make it easier for you to tell if something substantial has changed since you last played. The label will be placed under the welcome hologram in spawn. - Elite Group - Spoiler We have been growing our Elite Group Discord the past couple weeks with Survival players who want to help out with testing and input. If you would like to join this group so you can give us feedback directly, or aid us with testing or debugging, message me on here or on Discord and you might be able to join if you qualify. - 1.13 - 1.13 is a big and game breaking version for servers. I want to be as confident as possible with any update before deciding to deploy it. We still have a lot that needs doing on this update, although we have already prepared a lot of it. I can't say when it will be coming yet, although I hope it can be made possible within the next month or two. - What's Next? - I've had more inspiration lately for Survival. I do want to continue developing it and @Justugh wants to as well. He is currently pretty busy with Invasion, but whenever he can, he will begin working on Survival. I will still be able to do simple updates like this, but as far as new development and custom plugins, that's his job. Like I said in the beginning of the post, I have been actually reading quite a bit about game theory/design the past couple months. I think it will lead to better content and a more populated server overall after some time. I'm not going to make any promises, but all I can say is that I will try my best. I wanted to leave this with one question which you may answer if you like: what is your favorite part about current survival? Pick your brain a bit, and come up with what you think you look forward to most each day when joining. Thanks for reading! In case you missed it, this update will fully release tomorrow.
